Body armor, your source of safety and security

A body armor vest is also referred to as ballistic vest, bullet proof jacket, and bullet resistant vest and so on. Body armor can be referred as bullet proof vests also which are used to secure against bullet attacks. They mostly come in two types: soft vests and hard vest. While the former is mainly used to prevent bullets and pellets from low caliber guns, shot guns and hand grenades, the latter is mainly used for high explosives, automatic rifles, and machine gun bullets and so on. Soft body armor is mainly worn by private securities, police force, paramilitary forces, and defense personnel and so on. Hard bullet poof jacket is worn by the army and military, tactical teams, SWAT units and so on. There is also more advanced body armor which is mainly worn by bomb disposal squads. In case of these, there are helmets and face masks in order to protect the head, spine and the eyes. Usually, a body armor vest is worn in the torso region as this area is very prone to bullet wounds.

In simple terms, bullet proof vests are made of hard fiber material which prevents the bullet from hitting the body. Unlike the former body armor vests, the present models are more effective and resistant and are also not so cumbersome. The wearer can easily do all the normal tasks even after wearing the vests. For hard bullet proof vests, there are additional steel or ceramic plates which make them more effective against bullets fired from machine guns, automatic rifles and so on. Pellets and shrapnel from high explosives can also be well prevented.

The main function of body armor is to catch and absorb the force the force of the bullet thereby deforming it into a disc shape. By this, the force is spread over a larger portion of the vest fiber. Moreover, the hard resistant material also helps the wearer to withstand the impact of the bullet force easily. Usually, the main characteristic features of the vest consist of penetration resistance instruments as well as impact instruments. The hard fabric of the body armor also helps to withstand and prevent slash wounds from a sharp object.

There is another advanced version of the bullet proof vests which are known as rifle resistant armor. They are mainly used for protection against bullets which are fired from automatic rifles. Usually, there are two types of rifle resistant armors: hard fiber-based laminate vests and ceramic plate-based vests. Both of these models have various features and specifications. The protective plates of these types are mainly from various metal types such as Silicon Carbide, Boron Carbide, and Aluminum Oxide and so on. Advanced resistant vests also have a coating of Kraton matrix and molecular weight Polyethylene.

In some bullet proof vests, there is also third layer of textile which is popularly known as the third layer. It is mainly used for the encapsulation of the bullets and the explosive pellets. There are mainly two types of layers namely simple sewn slips and heat sealed hermetic slips. The makes the Body armor more effective as well as hassle free to wear.
