Does oil fired heating lower the value of a house? Will they have green taxes in the future+is it more costly?
We have seen a house which we like that was built 2 years ago but it's in a rural area and has an oil fired system. We're not sure whether to go for it as quite unfamiliar with this. Our research shows crude oil prices can be volatile and have risen 300% over last few years plus boiler maintenance is costly. Not sure whether energy efficient either. Anyone have any experiences with this? Does it put future buyers off if we were to try and sell the property?
Gas prices have increased dramatically in the last few years too,and gas boilers are just as expensive to maintain and service.
All new oil boilers have to be of a certain efficiency,but that law only came into force in april 2007.The boiler fitted might be a condensing boiler and be to the current standard,make an enquiry for confirmation.
You could change the boiler to LPG if you feel it will make a difference.
