Different Types of Camouflage Uniforms

Will there ever be a day when most soldiers can go in a battle and just press their camouflage uniform and easily blend into their environment? Like how a real chameleon does? As soldiers are continuously deployed to every station they are needed, the need to properly clothe them is also a growing demand. While uniforms are totally important to signify their country, it is also necessary to make them feel safe as they wear it. Camouflage uniforms have always been the subject of constant changes since terrains can be in different forms. Scientists and designers are creating newer and newer designs to always go with the demand and there is nothing wrong with this since we need to protect those who want to serve us. Here is just a look on the progress of camouflage clothing has made over its short, but interesting history:

Camouflage uniforms are mostly created to be worn by most servicemen and there are different types of uniforms for each of them. The Battle Dress Uniform or the BDU and the Dessert Camouflage Uniform or DCU that were used during the 1990s are now replaced by the ACU or Army Combat Uniform. Then, in 2003 an 2004, another type of camouflage clothing was made popular, which was the Universal Camouflage Pattern. This is to better conceal our soldiers in desert, woodland and urban environments. The Navy also has its changes with its uniform, which was introduced in 2007, this is the Navy Working Uniform or the NWUs. The design is of Digital Camouflage with blue and gray as its main colors.

The Air Force is also expecting changes with their uniforms and this will be on 2011, when the Airman Battle Uniform will be in use and will totally replace the BDU. The design for this has some tiger stripes with different patterns in shades of gray. Each branch in the Army has their own specific dress code and uniform style that they usually wear in different occasions. Today, the armed forces is actively using its Army Combat Uniform, which is made with designs of tan, OD green and gray colors in the form of digital camo. If you usually watch the news about the events in Iraq, you may notice soldiers wearing ACU there.

But because, there are still the constant changes happening in camouflage clothing, we can expect changes to happen any time soon, as the ACU will also be replaced by multi-cam to be used in Afghanistan. Most uniforms although they may vary in names and acronyms serve with a single purpose in mind and that is to protect the wearer at any cost.

Camouflage uniforms have their own camouflage effects that are specifically created to withstand their harsh environment. A lot of military engineers are still not satisfied with their creation, thus they are still creating for newer and newer battle uniforms that will allow the wearer total concealment against their enemies and although the U.S. have consistently creating clothes that are far more efficient, other countries are also creating their own form of camouflage clothing. So the race to supremacy on who has better clothing is still on the works.
