Enjoy Summer in a Lightweight Tunic or Kaftan

As the spring blossom is now in full bloom, it seems that summertime is nearly round the corner. But while, for many women, summer wardrobes distinctly focus on swimwear, this year's summer fashion gives the bikini-shy something to celebrate. Top designers and leading fashion retailers have been touting kaftans and tunics as the light-weight clothing to go for this summer - and it's not hard to see why.

Tunics can be worn in a variety of ways and, as a result, suit a range of body shapes. For instance, if you're tall and slim with a small chest, stick to knee-length, sleeveless tunics with high necks - this will accentuate your shape and show off your slender arms. If you're top-heavy and have flabby upper arms, make sure you opt for a low-cut tunic with long or capped sleeves, which finishes above the knee. This will attract attention to the more shapely parts of your body, and will also suit women with larger upper thighs.

Another advantage of wearing tunics this summer is that this light-weight garment can be appropriate for a variety of occasions. For instance, neon floral patterned tunics make fabulous daytime wear, whether you're relaxing in your back garden or out enjoying a picnic in the park. White tunics can also provide effective comfort from the heat, especially if you're on holiday in hot and humid climes. Generally speaking, kaftans are tailored in a narrow v-neck fashion - usually adorned with buttons, a toggle or a tie - with elbow length sleeves and a floaty hem that rests below the hips. As a result, kaftans appeal to a range of body shapes, flattering women with curves while also draping delicately over ladies of a more slender build. Moreover, kaftans are a versatile fashion item, acting effectively as a sophisticated top for evening or daytime and can also be used as beachwear over a swimming costume.

So, whatever your body shape, you'll be able to find kaftans and tunics to suit you this summer. Wear them with skinny jeans or wide length trousers and a belt for an everyday look that says casual but cool. Alternatively, pair with leggings or a skirt for an effortlessly chic look that others will envy - though make sure your skirt is at least a few inches longer than your tunic to avoid a nasty fashion disaster!
