What is the main difference between server and PC case?
I recently bought a HP computer with Vista. I used to do allot of recording with XP and none of my audio equipment will work properly with Vista, So I plan to build a computer for recording(with XP pro 64bit). I would like it to be a Rack Mount computer so I can mount it with other pro audio gear.Most of the cases i find that are rack mount are server cases. Can I use a server case as a standard desk top unit?
Yeah, you could probably get away with doing it that way. Most rack mount servers are just very high powered computers, so you might not be using the machine to full capacity. But you could probably also find ways to use all that extra horsepower for something.
Of course, you'll want to make sure it will fit on your rack. I'm not sure if an audio component rack has the same dimensions as a server rack.
